SUMMARY PLAN DESCRIPTION FOR HEALTH AND WELFARE PLANS

If you are an eligible JHU employee, you receive a wide array of health and welfare benefits that provide you and your family with protection, security and peace of mind. The Health and Welfare Handbook for Faculty and Staff and the Health and Welfare Handbook for Bargaining Unit members are the summary plan descriptions (SPD) for the university's health and welfare plans covered under ERISA. These handbooks contain a comprehensive description of the university's health and welfare plans, including the terms and conditions of participation. The SPD informs participants of what these benefit plans provide, how they operate, and how to file a claim for benefits. Costs or rates for benefit plans are not included in the SPD, since they change annually. However, costs do appear on the Benefits Web site under the Cost of Coverage link.

SUMMARY PLAN DESCRIPTIONS & PLAN DOCUMENTS FOR RETIREMENT PLANS

Saving for retirement is an important factor in planning for your future financial security. You may also be eligible to participate in the university's 403(b) Retirement Plans or Support Staff Pension Plan. The summary plan descriptions for these plans provide the terms and conditions of participation as well as how service and benefits are calculated, when benefits become vested, and when and in what form benefits are paid. The plan documents provide you with a complete description of the plans and associated provisions.
