JHU Benefits Site - Leaving JHU

Leaving JHU

If you leave Johns Hopkins University, you may be eligible to continue some of your benefits after you leave the university.

Issues to Consider

  • Do you need continuing medical and dental coverage?
  • Are you eligible to retire?
  • Do you want to convert your life insurance or personal accident insurance for yourself and/or your dependents to an individual policy?
  • Will you have continued expenses that are eligible for reimbursement from your health care or dependent care flexible spending account?

Take Action

If you are leaving JHU, be sure to:

  • Submit a letter of resignation to your supervisor at least two weeks before your last day of employment.
  • Contact the Benefits Service Center to discuss options for continuing your medical and dental through COBRA, earned retirment benefits and converting your life insurance or personal accident insurance policies.
  • Determine whether you need to take action when the COBRA information is sent to your home.

If You Don’t Take Action

If you do not complete any of the above steps, you may not be able to continue your JHU benefits after you leave the university.
